DROPARAZZI - September 2, 2011

DROPARAZZI is my twelfth solo album of all original songs. This is the first concept album I have done with a constant theme and a main character throughout the entire album.
Each song deals with a different part of the protagonist's life and his/her psyche, thoughts, goals and feelings. Fame and/or fortune is the central theme and how a person deals with all the many things, both good and bad, that go along with it. The protagonist character could be you, me or anyone. MP3 files and descriptions of what I think and feel about each song are below. Of course, the songs may mean something different for every listener.
I hope you all enjoy this new album!

SONG DESCRIPTIONS

1) DROPARAZZI
This song is addressing the pros and cons of fame. The title is a play on both my name and the term "paparazzi". There is an element of happiness and an element of frustration portrayed by the character in this song.

2) NOT MEANT TO BE
I believe this song is the reflective side of the main character. Pondering his/her youth and wondering if they made the right decisions and if they're in the right place in their life. It could also be in the form of a dream. Or even an "after-life" statement as is revealed in the last verse ("When I was alive, I really had everything"). Or perhaps it is simply a projection of future events to come.

3) MAKE IT LAST
This song has a "use it while you got it" message to it. The lyrics talk about the more frustrating or superficial things about fame. But also how great it can be when you're "on top" so-to-speak. This is also the up-tempo rock song of the album.

4) JUST ONE MORE DAY
Many recording artists have made tributes dedicated to the families and victims of 9/11 and this is my brand new tribute for the ten-year anniversary of the attacks. To prepare for the writing of this song, I watched all of the 9/11 footage I could. It was devestating and very horrific but I felt it was necessary to see it in order to feel the proper emotions to make a proper tribute. I hope I did an adequate job in honoring those who lost their lives and to the friends and family members who are still suffering. This song is for all of you!

5) PLASTIC
The title of this song is a metaphore for how superficial most things in the media can be. Or about the superficial "benefits" that go along with being famous. The vocals in this song are done in a 2-part harmony-rap style and is the first time I've done that type of vocal track on a song.

6) DOCTOR-PATIENT PRIVILEGE
Another completely metaphorical song shrouded in risque content and imagery. The idea behind this song was to make fun of the tabloid rumors that can plague a celebrity and cast them in a negative light. I took this idea and made the character play along with whatever it was being said and then develop my own pseudo-tabloid story for the character which all is completely made-up. I also wanted to write a more dark and dirty song and this subject fit perfectly. All the vocals are sung in 3-part harmony.

7) REAL LIFE
This track features the main character lashing out at the tabloid media. The anger and frustration that a celebrity can feel about the lies printed or said about them in the press is clear in the lyrics.

8) LOVE'S OPEN DOOR
A song about the main character finding someone he/she is interested in romantically and attempting to relate to them or get to know them better. Many artists have their love lives revealed through magazines or news programs so I felt this was an appropriate area to write about. It adds depth and "humanity" to the protagonist.

9) ETERNAL LOVE
This is the wedding song of the album. The two people who were courting each other in the previous song have tied the knot in this song.

10) BE THEIR STRENGTH
I originally wrote this song in Janaury, 2010 for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. But I also dedicate this song to the victims in Japan from the earthquake and tsunami of 2011 and the Norway shooting victims of 2011. This song is for all of them, their familes and their friends.
